The facts: a week of qualifiers and 75-plus already through
The stop runs September 4-8 at Costao do Santinho in Florianopolis, marking the return of Brazil's national poker championship to the state after eight years. The schedule carries 26 tournaments, with buy-ins ranging from R$500 to R$25,000.
Through the online route, more than 75 players are already locked into the Main Event, and this week alone roughly 30 more seats are guaranteed across daily qualifiers and Sunday's Mega. The cheap road exists: feeder satellites start at single-digit dollar buy-ins and step up toward the tables that award the packages.
Why it matters: a satellite isn't played like a tournament
Here's the part almost nobody executes properly — and it's the difference between qualifying and telling a story about nearly qualifying.
In a regular tournament, every extra chip has value: first place pays far more than tenth. In a satellite, every package is worth exactly the same. Winning with 90% of the chips pays no better than scraping into the last qualifying spot. That changes everything:
- Accumulating stops being the goal. The goal is surviving until the seats are handed out. A comfortable stack near the bubble doesn't look for action — it avoids it.
- You fold hands you'd never fold in an MTT. With seats in sight and a medium stack, calling an all-in with a strong hand can be a serious mistake: you risk your entire qualification for chips that buy you nothing extra.
- Short stacks are the ones who must push. If you're short, early aggression is your only currency; waiting eliminates you quietly while the blinds climb.
- Beware the "almost". Finishing second in chips and first on the bubble's elimination list is the most expensive result in the format.
