PokerStars on Betfair: what the network shake-up means for online poker

2026-08-10 · KryptoKings Team

PokerStars announced a major restructuring today: from August 13, its United Kingdom players will operate inside the Betfair platform under the name "PokerStars on Betfair". It's the first step of a plan that redraws how one of the world's biggest poker sites works — and it says plenty about where the industry is heading.

The facts

The change is the front door, not the game: UK players will use the same software as always and keep competing against the global player pool — with access to flagship tournaments like the Sunday Million, the SCOOP and WCOOP series, and qualifiers for major live events. In the coming months, two more brands from the same parent group (Flutter) will replace their poker products with PokerStars software, adding even more players to the same ecosystem.

The company calls it the "PokerStars Network": connecting players across all of its brands into shared pools. The model already runs in Italy and North America. The executive in charge admitted it plainly: regulation fragmented the global game, forced exits from markets, and players felt it through thinner fields and smaller tournament prizes. This move aims to reverse that.

Why it matters

Here's the concept every player should master: liquidity — the number of active players sharing tables and tournaments. More liquidity means more tables running around the clock, bigger prize pools, and — the key part for you — more recreational players in the fields. When liquidity drains, what's left is mostly professionals battling each other, and the game gets tougher for everyone. That's why a "corporate" story like this one ends up changing the real difficulty of your tables.

The Mentor-King lesson is about judgment: poker doesn't happen in a vacuum. Players who evolve understand the context they play in — the same way it pays to know which major series are coming on the calendar — because choosing where and when to play is a strategic decision as real as a 3-bet.

The industry is consolidating, and the online poker map of 2027 won't look like 2025's. To read those moves with judgment instead of headlines, join the community — we break them down together.
