Both of his titles this WCOOP came in $530 events. Neither came in a $10,300. With the second one, Patrick "pads1161" Leonard reached 15 World Championship of Online Poker titles and stepped clear into sole second place all-time, ahead of three players who had been level with him for weeks.
The facts: a $530 turbo and a tie broken
The title came on Saturday, September 19, in Event 69-H, a No Limit Hold'em 7-Max Turbo at $530. The field reached 147 entries, the prize pool closed at $73,500 — 47% above the $50,000 guarantee — and Leonard took $15,428 after beating "Caldini00" heads-up. Third went to Mexico's "CatfishBillyMan" for $9,011.
Leonard started the series on 13 titles. He reached 14 on September 12 in a $530 Deep Stack with 194 entries, and that same night finished third in the $530 8-Game and fourth in the FLO8.
Benny "RunGodlike" Glaser still leads with 17, and he also won this series: the $1,050 8-Game on September 14, out of a 56-entry field, for $21,400. Behind Leonard sit three players on 14 — Niklas "Lena900" Astedt, João "Naza114" Vieira and Denis "aDrENalin710" Strebkov. Vieira got there on September 18 by winning the $1,050 PLO8 Championship against 121 entries for $27,202.
Add SCOOP titles and the order flips: Leonard has 16 SCOOP and 15 WCOOP for 31 overall; Glaser has 12 and 17 for 29.
The series opened on September 6 with 121 events and roughly 350 tournaments, and runs through the 30th. From September 22 to 30 there are 39 numbered events left, including the six Main Events on the 27th and 28th, carrying more than $6.5 million in combined guarantees.
Why it matters: the record was built on the middle buy-in
Five players have 14 or more titles across 25 editions of WCOOP. It is a short, closed list, and the easy reading is to treat it as a list of raw talent. The calendar says something else.
Both of Leonard's titles this series came off the same rung: $530. Not the $10,300 High, where the field is tiny and every entry hurts. On the middle rung there are dozens of tournaments a week, fields of 100 to 200 entries and structures that let you play. That is where volume turns into trophies, because far more of the series is within reach without one bad stretch ending your festival.
The translation to an ordinary bankroll is direct: the right buy-in is not the highest you can afford today, it is the highest you can repeat a hundred times. A player with $1,000 choosing $20 tournaments has fifty bullets and a month of attempts; the same player at $100 has ten, and variance enough to end things before his actual game shows up in the results. A professional's record and a regular's schedule run on the same arithmetic — only the zeros change.
