The WPT World Championship 2026 runs from November 27 to December 21 at the Wynn in Las Vegas, with 85 events and buy-ins starting at $400. The full schedule was released this week, and it carries one significant change to the flagship event: $1,000,000 added by the organisation in mystery bounties — money that does not come out of the players' pockets.
The facts: what is played and when
The $10,400 Main Event spreads its three Day 1 flights between December 13 and 15, plays Day 2 on the 16th and closes with a livestreamed final table on December 20. The $1,000,000 in mystery bounties goes to those who run deep.
Around it sits a three-and-a-half-week festival with hold'em, Omaha, T.O.R.S.E., triple draw, Omaha/8 and Big O, and buy-ins from $400 to $25,800:
- WPT Prime Championship ($1,100), December 5-12, with $5,000,000 guaranteed.
- Super Gold Million ($400), a new event, December 10-14, with $3,000,000 guaranteed across four Day 1 flights with unlimited re-entry.
- Ladies Championship ($1,100), starting December 13, with $250,000 guaranteed.
- Milestone satellites: $200 into the Prime (50 seats) and several $1,100 events into the Main Event, most guaranteeing 25 seats each.
Why it matters: the cheap seat has fine print
An $1,100 satellite awarding 25 seats to a $10,400 tournament is not an 89% discount: it is a lottery with favourable rules. Winning one means buying a ticket worth ten times the price you paid, and that is the genuine appeal. But the right decision depends on how many bullets you have to fire at it, and on whether the trip would still fit your budget without the seat. How you play the closing stage of that phase — when to stop accumulating and start protecting your qualification — is satellite logic, not regular tournament logic.
The detail almost nobody prices in is the second buy-in. A seat won in a satellite does not cover the flight, the nights in Las Vegas or the side-event re-entries. If those costs swallow three months of your grind, the tournament stopped being an investment and became a bet on one week, no matter how well you play. The rule is the same as always: the event has to fit your bankroll, not your enthusiasm.
And the $400 Super Gold Million with $3,000,000 guaranteed is where the most chips will be lost to ignorance. A huge, cheap field with unlimited re-entry produces final tables full of players who have never calculated a pay jump; understanding ICM there is worth more than any bluff.
There are ten weeks left, which is plenty of time to build a serious qualification plan instead of improvising one in December. If you are going to take a shot at it, bring the plan to the community: a schedule reads better with more than one pair of eyes.
