For the first time, the WSOP Super Circuit is coming to Latin America, and the venue is Punta Cana. The festival runs January 24 to February 2, 2027 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with a Main Event built on $2,000,000 guaranteed. It is the first official World Series of Poker event that property has hosted.
The facts: what was announced
The Super Circuit is the top rung of the WSOP Circuit: longer festivals, international fields, and guarantees on a different scale from a standard ring stop. The LATAM edition opens the 2027 calendar with ten days of play in the Caribbean and a Main Event that starts life with seven figures locked in.
The brand is expanding hard outside the United States. The Super Circuit debuted in Canada this year — the Montreal stop closed with national records — and added a European home in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. Punta Cana is the third leg of that plan, and the first built squarely for Latin American and Caribbean players.
The prize mechanics are unchanged: every event on the schedule awards a gold ring, and champions also earn an invitation to WSOP Paradise, the December festival in the Bahamas. Which means a mid buy-in tournament in Punta Cana can end up turning into a seat in the most expensive series on the calendar.
Why it matters: a season is planned in months, not weeks
Four months of notice is four months of satellites. A festival announced in September for January is exactly the window in which a serious recreational player can qualify without dismantling a bankroll: enter through the cheap door, stack tickets, arrive with the buy-in already paid. That route is always available and almost nobody uses it in time — the classic mistake is remembering the event two weeks out and paying cash for everything. Travel changes the math, not just the buy-in. Flights, hotel, food and days not earning weigh as much as the entry. The healthy rule is to treat the whole trip as one expense and measure it against your actual bankroll, not against the fantasy of a final table. If the full package is a slice big enough to leave you playing scared, the festival is not for this season — it is for the next one, and that is a player's decision too. And the ring distorts decisions. When the prize includes a title and an invitation to another series, plenty of players stop reading chips and start reading the trophy: they overpay on the bubble and dodge correct spots out of fear of busting ninth. A ring is worth something real, but you collect it by playing the last tables well rather than by wanting them — and that is ICM territory, same as any other tournament.
