The event drew 1,027 entries for a €2,988,570 prize pool, with more than €1 million of it paid out through bounty envelopes. Heads-up, Kovalski beat the UK's Brandon Harris, who collected €216,820, to claim his third live title.
The format produced the kind of stories only a mystery bounty can. Italy's Candido Cappiello busted in 21st — nowhere near the final table — yet walked away with €124,250, the tournament's fifth-largest haul, because his envelopes hid €113,000. Latin America featured to the end too: Chile's Edgard Moreau, who won a KSOP Mini High Roller in Brazil last year, finished fourth for a career-best €116,640.
Why it matters: in a mystery bounty, the money isn't only at the final table
Cappiello's run is the day's lesson: eliminated in 21st, he cashed for more than the sixth-place finisher. In a mystery bounty, a huge slice of the prize pool never touches the payout ladder — it hangs on the neck of every covered opponent. That rewires correct strategy: once bounties are live, calling an all-in stops being a pure equity decision and starts including envelope value. Wider calling ranges against covered stacks, and far more caution when the covered stack is you.
Kovalski's pattern teaches the other half. Five of six career-best scores at one festival isn't luck — it's a player who knows the field, the structures and the formats of a specific stop, and returns every year to press that edge. Specialising in a format is one of the most profitable bankroll decisions a tournament player can make, and almost nobody treats it seriously.
